Its that time of the year again, when the sun comes out just as people have things to tempt us indoors. Coming to cajole us this week are a plethora of End of Year Graduation Exhibitions, dotted around our fine town. No pictures yet – maybe later – but as a starter for 10, there’s a Weltec final exhibition hidden away in the basement of 39 Dixon St. Just near that seedy pole-dancing bar. Which seems somewhat appropriate. But it is only on until tomorrow night – better hurry !

Victoria University’s Schools of Arch and Design have their End of Year show opening tonight as well – in the big red building on Vivian St, opposite the brothel. Hmmm, there’s a theme going on here. Most of these shows are over before you know it, so don’t miss out – it is open till the 21st of Nov. I always find that this is the best part of the year, where you can go from venue to venue, checking out the talent, and their work. Some lip-smackingly good work on show here, or so I’m told. Big posh opening party tonight, which is also showing work from students in years 2, 3 and 4 as well as final year. Nothing on-line that I can find so far.

And then there’s Massey, which is much too posh for a seedy neighbourhood, and so have brought their stuff down to a common level by calling theirs the Blow Festival. Really? Blow as in …. the stuff for your nose, and blow as in the other…. job? What on earth are they thinking of? Regardless of whether it is appropriate, there is bound to be some great stuff here. I think they still have their automotive design department – always nice to see the cars of tomorrow, today. And the great thing is that you can get enough Blow to last you two weeks now – its open till the 20th Nov.

Turn the economy around – hire a student. They’re fun to have around, cute to look at, and ask really silly questions. Worth every penny.
