I can’t believe how nice this weather is right now – just beautiful, as if to make up for the rubbish weather we had immediately prior to Christmas. So, nothing to write about right now, except for the fact that obviously Eye of the Fish is on holiday, sitting by the sea somewhere, doing as little as possible.
What has the world got in store for us in 2022 I wonder? Who knows? And frankly, right now, who cares? Happy twenty-twenty-two.

Looking for ways to make your life just a little bit easier and more pleasant? Try these for starters:
1 Exercise on a Monday night (nothing fun happens on a Monday night).
2 On the fence about a purchase? Wait 72 hours before you buy it.
3 Tip: the quickest supermarket queue is always behind the fullest trolley (greeting, paying and packing take longer than you think).
4 Bring fruit to work. Bring fruit to bed!
5 Consider going down to four days a week. It’s likely a disproportionate amount of your fifth day’s work is taxed anyway, so you’ll lose way less than a fifth of your take-home pay.
6 Everyone has an emotional blind spot when they fight. Work out what yours is, and remember it.
7 Plant spring bulbs, even if they’re just in a pot.
8 Send a voice note instead of a text; they sound like personal mini podcasts.
9 Keep a bird feeder by a window, ideally the kitchen. It’ll pass the time when you’re washing up.
10 Always bring ice to house parties (there’s never enough).

Thanks for a great EotF year, Nemo. I have no idea what your visitor stats look like, but the comments response seems to be constantly on the up.
I really hope your (four?) day job continues to allow you time for the blog.
My only wish for 2022 – more about buildings, less about maps. I do like buildings.
Yes, my feelings exactly. In theory, having done with all that LGWM “consultation” and District Plan malarky, 2022 is gonna be all about the buildings! Got any exciting news from Gonville?
A fitful update…

You forgot never open a can of tomatoes over an open cutlery draw
The quickest supermarket checkout line is behind the single blokes – less social skills equals more speed
At any rate I hope you have a great holiday by the seaside Nemo, I’ve been trying to work in 34 degree heat yesterday dropping a whole shelterbelt of trees and it gets interesting when a 30m tree doesn’t fall the way you were planning
No real news here except the ongoing rental to desperate tenants by landlords who buy distressed properties which are either leaky buildings or tagged as Quake-prone – Owner picks them up for a song with no intention of doing the work and rents them out at near market rates, rather despicable
Given the dearth of real news in this silly season I can offer up a link to one of Dan Wang’s letters – he covers the current state of China for the first half but also opera and books as well
A very long read but smart and lucid for those who feel that the media is lacking intellectual heft whilst all the cool fish are on holiday

Have fun in the sunshine and look forward to more talk about buildings
