Hi all. It’s been a long time since I’ve posted (feels like it could be ten years). But I’m back to raise some major flaws with the LGWM plans because this has been a near and dear subject to me over the past 20 years. None of these flaws appear to be necessary compromises forced by cost or other constraints. And it appears we could fix…

At least, that seems to be the view of the vast majority of people commenting on the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Bill, (RMEHSOM), which is being rammed through Parliament with indecent haste. Haste so hasty in fact that the Environment Select Committee was sitting on Saturday, which also happened to be the most glorious hot Saturday of the summer so far….

The Draft District Plan is up online and is calling for submissions. Consultation closes on 14 December. Many people will not have viewed it online, and may be unaware of the extent of the changes. First among these changes is that we will no longer have Inner Residential and Outer Residential, but instead we will have a General Residential Zone (everything there is noted as GRZ)…

The only way is UP, baby, for you and me now… So sang Yaz and the Plastic Population back in the 80s, and it’s what we are going to be singing now as well. Put your dancing shoes on and smash out the House music classics. There’s no doubt that the densities of our cities are going to be intensified, but we are left to discuss…

I’d almost forgotten: it’s Guy Fawkes night tonight! Suitably cold and autumnal too, in spite of it being nearly summer. Back in the day, long time ago now, we used to buy crackers by the dozen and blow things up. Small Tom Thumb fireworks, that came in a string of crackers each about 15mm long, would provide a ripple of excitement as we let them off…

After many long years, LGWM have finally offered us 4 shiny new options for us Wellingtonians to savour and think about, bedecked in shiny new colours to match the LGWM logo. Its almost like they have been planning this event for years… So…. What this means is…. Option 1 – below – This version has a couple of key features – a big new diagonal Bus…

In the great tradition of the founders of this site, who tried to help and cajole the LGWM team into coming up with a plan for Wellington – to really get it moving – I thought that seeing as the semi-final FOUR possible solutions are presented to Wellington (starting next week on Monday 1st November), that I’d put my best flipper forward and see what the…

The WCC sub-committees are going flat out at the moment, consulting wildly on this and that and approving all manner of things – I can hardly keep up. I’m glad I’m not a Councillor or the Mayor, having to read this amount of paperwork each week is fairly exhausting. Mind you, they get paid for reading it (and I’m fairly sure that many of the Councillors…

Interesting news drop today with regards to a sudden bi-partisan agreement to densify our cities, announced with a decent amount of fanfare and ensuing excitement at lunchtime. But what did they say, and what does it mean? The Eye of the Fish takes a Closer Look. The headline news makes some big drastic promises – that the main cities of Aotearoa will be allowed extra houses…

I have no idea how this thing works – perhaps you do? If you have any idea what is going on in the new draft District Plan, please reply in the comments below. On p32 of the new DP (Design Guide Centres & Mixed Use – DRAFT FOR CONSULTATION), it says: City Outcomes Contribution G.107. The scale of larger commercial, residential, or mixed-use developments has a…
