OK – as a slow start back into the new year for all you sleepy people, returning from summer holidays in dribs and drabs, I’ve got a summer beachside hotspot location for you. Can anyone name the location? And for extra bonus points – can you name the architect?
a Hint: Yes, it IS in New Zealand
That’s the new toilet block at Pauatahanui Inlet, Ivey Bay. Local Paremata-based architects SPACE designed the new block which is a marked improvement on the old building.
Correct – you’re quick! Yes, I was passing the other day and the light on the hills behind it looked fantastic – but also, as you say, Space have done a great job on the refurb. I was going to take more photos to show the details, but then a car load of people turned up and started using the facilities – and i don’t want to be in the paper for taking photos of people showering etc at a public facility, no matter how good it looks.
Are you aware of the wrangles they had to go through to complete this job? From memory, someone local put up quite a battle – wanted the site moved – argued continually that it was in the wrong place etc. Seems good to me. I wonder if they will now apologise?
…and here is another view of it, just come up in the photo feed, from a completely different point of view:

But it is exactly where the old toilet block was situated – why do so many people have a carrot stuck up their arses?
Looks good, too.
