Osteria del Toro - now open for business. Decor has to be seen to be believed. It seems that they have the tackiness of the Spanish ready down to a tee. Perhaps that means the food will be good and authentic as well? Masked Barfly? See you there for dinner?

“can’t believe that they were allowed to be bowled like that without anyone raising a squeak. Someone screwed up there!”

Actually, unless a building is listed or within a designated heritage area, it’s well-nigh impossible to stop its demolition.

Does anyone have any photos of those 3 colourful townhouses that were in Holland St before the monster Monvie got built? There was a pink one, a yellow one and a blue one - and the proportions of the 3 together made up one of the nicer pieces of townscape in Wellington, before they were bowled.

I never got a photo before they went - actually, can't believe that they were allowed to be bowled like that without anyone raising a squeak. Someone screwed up there! But if anyone has a photo that they could post, or point us to, it'd be most appreciated.

Rondo, i'm shocked ! Are you saying the man should be doing the scheme out of the goodness of his own heart? Housing needy Wellingtonians takes nerves of steel and a heart of gold. And presently, a large bank balance.

Better to just sit back in the Osteria del Toro, listen to the Mariachi play flamenco, and nibble on some choros.

Philip - Due Pension seems to be another of those total rip-off projects, to all concerned: the owner, and the city, although surprisingly not the 'developer' (actually just a one man band really).

$470,000 for a 55m2 apartment - or should i say a 20m2 apartment and a 35m2 apartment.
That works out at $8545 / m2

Total rip off.
Construction costs of around half or two thirds of that?

I would have thought there would be more noise from those lovely corrugated iron "verandas" on the holland street side of the building, they were fair banging as I walked past them this morning,

We don't actually have too many problems with noise pollution, although perhaps thats just me - I cant remember the last time I even tried to go to sleep before midnight.

This wind is lots of fun though. The 8th floor sways like crazy, and the street itself becomes an intense wind tunnel.

Also: the due pension website is back up. Be sure to check out the pre-racing stripe renders (in the Rents pdf). What do you think - better before, or after?

"Restaurant of the Bull" ? Does that mean that its really just an Angus Steakhouse? With a Spanish bent of course.

Certainly much tastier than the former pawn shop. But i do wonder how the extra noise of the Osteria del Toro will go down with the apartment dwellers of Mon Vie opposite.

"a concept the combines fun, funk and innovation"
I suppose it would have to, given its placement...

According to The Masked Barfly, it'll be a large pizzeria and "pan-Mediterranean" restaurant called "Osteria del Toro".
